Marine & boatbuilding

Hulls, decks and superstructures: open mould craft skills through to large scale resin infusion, for builders and refit yards.

The work

Craft trade, production discipline

Marine composites run the full breadth of the trade. Production boatbuilding turns out gelcoated hulls and decks to a drumbeat: spray and hand lamination, precise gelcoat and flowcoat application, clean demoulds and consistent laminate quality, because every hull surface is a customer visible surface. Larger yachts and workboats increasingly move to vacuum assisted resin infusion, with big single shot components that reward technicians who understand resin flow, vacuum bagging and leak discipline.

Refit and repair is its own skill set again: structural repairs, core replacement in decks and hulls, osmosis treatment, fairing and finishing to a standard where the repair disappears. Behind all of it sits plug, pattern and mould making, the tooling that determines whether a production run succeeds.

The workforce challenge is seasonality. Launch dates, show deadlines and spring commissioning create predictable peaks that core teams cannot always cover, and skilled laminators are in short supply exactly when everyone needs them. That is the profile contract workforce exists for.

How we support it

Based on the Isle of Wight, a coastline with generations of boatbuilding heritage, we understand the standards yards work to and the seasonal shape of the trade. We supply individual trades for production lines and refit projects, and larger groups for build programmes with hard launch dates.

Both contract and permanent requirements are supported, and complete teams can be mobilised where the programme calls for it. Working in this sector yourself? Register with your CV.
